Head Start serves children who turn 3 or 4 years old by September 1, as well as 4 and 5 year olds.
Families who would like to have their child considered for eligibility must meet the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services poverty guidelines and be a resident of Bexar County Texas. The program serves children with disabilities, including those with severe disabilities.For a child to qualify for extended day services, the parents must be working, in training, or attending school.
The following documents are required when applying for Head Start services:
Proof of income: Previous year Income Tax Form 1040, W-2s, pay stubs, pay envelopes, written statements from employers, or documents showing current status as recipient of public assistance (TANF or SSI) or foster child placement documents. Homeless families according to the McKinney-Vento definition will be asked to complete a questionnaire.
Proof of Parent/Guardians' enrollment in school or training to qualify for extended-day Head Start Services.
Child's original birth certificate.
Child's up-to-date immunization record.
Proof of current Health Insurance (Private, CHIP, or Medicaid)
Proof of guardianship, if applicable (foster letter, Child Protective Services)
Proof of Residence. (bill or statement with your name and address, example: CPS or SAWS)
If the family is determined to be eligible and the child is accepted, the following documents will be needed at the time of enrollment, or can be presented at the time the application is completed.
Child's up-to-date immunization record.
Proof of current Health Insurance (Private, CHIP, or Medicaid)
